Who funds the people asking for your vote?
Turn on the optional Candidates tab to look up any federal, state or local candidate: their committees, who gave to them, and what those companies support. Public filings, linked every time. Off by default.
How the Candidates tab worksHow it works
Point the camera at a barcode, photograph the front of a package, type a name, enter a produce sticker code, or type a car's VIN. ChooseWell matches it to a product and the company that makes it, then pulls the public record together on one screen. Read the full walkthrough, or see the complete list of sources.
Common questions
What does ChooseWell do?
ChooseWell is a shopping app. Scan a product's barcode and it shows four things from public records: the maker's political spending, safety recalls and flagged ingredients, nutrition compared with targets you set, and ratings from other shoppers. An optional Candidates tab shows who funds the candidates on your ballot.
Is ChooseWell a government app?
No. ChooseWell is made by Shopper Assist, LLC, a private company in Brooklyn, New York. It is not affiliated with any government agency. It republishes public records as filed and names the source on every screen.
Does ChooseWell tell me what to buy?
No. It shows the record and you decide. The only judgement it makes is a spending-level label (High, Moderate or Low), and the thresholds behind that label are published in the app and on the methodology page.
How much does ChooseWell cost?
The first 7 days are free. After that it is a monthly or annual subscription, billed through the App Store or Google Play. No account is needed.
Where does the political data come from?
Federal Election Commission filings, Senate lobbying disclosures, IRS Form 8872 filings, and the campaign-finance records of 46 states and cities. Every figure links to its source.
